Indian Music Academy recital – Convocation Hall, University of Alberta

I made my sitar playing debut along with 70 other students at Convocation Hall in Edmonton this week. Our sitar group performed Raga Bhopali together, and we made lots of new friends! There were also tabla, harmonium and vocal performances in Rajasthani, Devotional and Qawwali styles. We had a lot of fun preparing, rehearsing, performing and eating together…thanks to all of the tutors at Indian Music Academy for all of their hard work, and to the University for hosting us!

Chateau Mission concert

Thank you to Chateau Mission Seniors Home for hosting us for the last time this evening…They gave us a thank you card signed by all the residents and a very generous cheque for our Polaris autistic and aspergers Scouts fund! Thanks again to our wonderful musical volunteers… #stalbertmusic #bluegrassbreaks

October 1st – Five years in Canada!

Five years ago today we sold or gave away everything we owned…our house, cars, furniture, cutlery and crockery, left our jobs in the schools and colleges in Scotland, and moved 4000 miles across the world to start a new life! I have learned that people are the same everywhere, for better or worse. I’ve learned that I’m the same person no matter where in the world I live. I’ve also learned that Canadians are generally very kind and welcoming of immigrants like myself, and I’m humbled by the warm welcome I have received in my time here. Every day has been an adventure! Thank you

Here’s a toast to this beautiful nation, and her continued prosperity…Slainte!
